Design Paper TabsPoly Tabs

Tabzoola is a US manufacturer and supplier of blank and custom-printed index tabs, made to order in Schaumburg, Illinois by Anselmo Die & Index, Inc., the family-owned plant that has die-cut index tabs since 1993 and trades online as Tabzoola, shipping nationwide.

Searching for blank index tabs to handwrite or print yourself? You can — but custom-printed tabs give a far cleaner, more professional, and consistent result, and they cost less than you'd think. Tabzoola prints your tab text to order so every set is sharp and legible.

Prefer to fill them in yourself? You can leave any tab blank in the online designer and write or label it later.

Blank tabs in any cut

Blank means unprinted, not undefined — the cut still has to match how many sections you need, because the die is the same one used for printed sets. The cut is the first thing to specify:

  • **Blank 1/5 cut** — five positions, the most common by a wide margin
  • **Blank 1/3 and 1/4 cut** — wider tabs, easier to hand-write legibly
  • **Blank 1/8 and 1/10 cut** — for chart and records sets with more sections
  • Any cut from 1/2 to 1/15, and single positions if you need one particular tab

Writing on them, or printing them yourself

Two ways people fill blank tabs, and they need different things from the stock. Hand-writing wants a wider cut and an uncoated surface — a 1/5 or 1/4 gives room for legible handwriting where a 1/10 does not, and permanent marker holds better than ballpoint.

Laser printing your own means the sheet has to feed and the toner has to sit down: index stock at 90# is the practical standard, and the extension must be positioned so it does not catch in the paper path. If you plan to run them through your own printer, say so on the order and we will confirm the sheet suits it.

Why custom-printed beats blank write-on tabs

Handwritten or DIY-printed tabs look uneven and wear quickly. Professionally printed tabs are crisp, consistent across every set, and edge-reinforced so they last. For anything client-facing — legal, medical, presentations — printed tabs make the whole binder look more polished.

  • Crisp, uniform text on every tab and every set
  • Mylar edge reinforcing so tabs don't tear out
  • 19 Mylar colors, any cut, 3-hole punched and collated
  • Often cheaper per set than buying blanks and printing them yourself

Want some tabs blank? No problem

If you genuinely need blanks — to write in by hand or fill later — just leave those tab positions empty in the designer. You can mix printed and blank tabs in the same set.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell blank index tabs?

Yes — unprinted tabs in any cut from 1/2 to 1/15, with or without Mylar reinforcing, punched or unpunched, in any of our tab colors. The 25-set minimum and the same production times apply as for printed sets.

Which cut is best for hand-writing on blank tabs?

A wider one. A 1/5 or 1/4 cut gives enough tab width for legible handwriting; a 1/10 or 1/12 does not, which is the most common regret with blank sets. If the sections are already decided, printed tabs in a narrow cut read better than handwriting in a wide one.

Can I laser-print blank tabs myself?

Many customers do. Use 90# index stock, feed carefully so the tab extension does not catch in the paper path, and expect alignment to drift a little between sheets — home and office printers are not registered the way a press is. Tell us on the order if you plan to print them and we will confirm the sheet suits your printer.

Can I order blank index tabs to write on myself?

Yes — you can leave any tab position blank in the online designer and fill it in later, and you can mix blank and printed tabs in one set. Most customers find custom-printed tabs look cleaner for not much more.

Is custom printing expensive compared to blank tabs?

Often it's comparable or cheaper once you factor in buying blanks and printing them yourself — and the result is far more consistent. Pricing shows live as you configure.

Do printed tabs come reinforced?

Yes, paper tabs can include Mylar edge reinforcing so they resist tearing — something most off-the-shelf blank tabs don't offer.

Thanks !

Justin was so nice to work with ! He answered all my questions and now I feel like an expert :)

Response from Tabzoola

Megan, thank you for the kind words — I'll pass them straight to Justin. Getting every question answered before anything prints is exactly how we like to work, so "now I feel like an expert" is about the best review we could ask for. Whenever your next set of tabs comes up, your questions are always welcome. John Anselmo, Tabzoola

Great Price

Glad I found you online. You're approximately 30 percent less than my old supplier and easier to work with. I'll be back.

Ben H. · Aug 22, 2026

Thank you, Ben — the price is no accident. We publish the whole table, setup included, so the number you see while you design is the number on the invoice. Glad the switch was easy, and we'll be ready when you are. — Tabzoola

Great customer service

I can't say enough about how great Justin was helping me with my order. After I approved the order he took time to call me to ask if i was sure about a decision to use next day delivery on the whole order when only a partial would keep me going while the rest of the order shipped ups ground. He saved me a ton of money. Thank you for caring about your customers. I wish more people were like you.

Amy L. · Aug 20, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Amy — I'll make sure Justin sees this. Splitting the shipment so only the part you needed went next-day was the right call, and it's the kind of thing we'd rather catch on the phone than have you find on the invoice. Anyone here would have made that call. Thank you for taking the time to write it down. — Tabzoola

Thank You

My old supplier went out of business. You guys produced an exact copy of what we've been using. Thank you!!!

Perri V. · Aug 18, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Perri — losing a supplier you've used for years is a real headache, and matching a set you already rely on is the kind of job we like. If you ever need another one matched, a photo of an existing tab is enough for us to pick up the titles and the colors. Glad we could keep you running. — Tabzoola

Perfect!

Tabs came out better than expected. Will definitely be back.

Joan S. · Aug 18, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Joan — better than expected is a good place to land. The part people usually don't expect is the make: real die-cut tabs on index stock, with the Mylar bonded on both sides of the extension, which is where tabs tear first. We'll be ready whenever you need the next run. — Tabzoola
