What is an exhibit list?
An exhibit list is a numbered list of every exhibit a party plans to use at a trial, hearing or deposition, with a short description of each one. The court or the attorneys fill in the columns as each exhibit is marked for identification, offered and admitted, so the list becomes the record of what came into evidence.
Does my court require its own exhibit list form?
Some do. Many state and federal courts publish their own exhibit list form, and a judge's standing order can set the format. If yours does, use that form. This maker produces a clean general list for courts that accept any format, and for depositions, arbitrations, mediations and working copies.
Should exhibits be numbered or lettered?
Follow your court's rule or the judge's order. A common practice is numbers for one side and letters for the other, or a party prefix such as PX-1 and DX-1 so the two sides never collide. The maker does numbers, letters, a prefix, and a starting number for a continuation list.
What should the description say?
Enough to find the document without opening it: the type of document, its date, who wrote it and to whom, and the Bates range if it has one. For example, "Email from J. Rivera to M. Chen, April 12, 2025, SMITH000451–453."
How do I tab the exhibits to match the list?
