Exhibit numbering questions
How are trial exhibits usually numbered?
It depends on your court's local rules, the judge's standing order, or the pretrial order — there is no single national standard. Common patterns are: numbers for one party and letters for the other (plaintiff 1–99, defense A–Z) so ranges never collide; straight numbers with a party prefix such as PX-1, DX-1, and JX-1 for joint exhibits; and sequential numbering that continues across volumes (volume two starts at Exhibit 101, not back at 1). This generator produces any of these.
Can I upload a PDF or Word exhibit list instead of typing one?
Yes — though not on this page. If your exhibits already exist in a document, drop the PDF or Word file into the tab title extractor at /toc-to-tabs and it reads the titles straight out, exhibit stamps included, with nothing retyped. Can I continue numbering across multiple binders or volumes?
Yes. Set “Start at” to the number where your previous volume left off — for example start at 101 for the second volume of a large exhibit set — and the sequence continues from there.
How many exhibit tabs can I order?
Any quantity from the 25-set minimum up to 500+ tabs per set and multiple sets. Trial teams typically order several identical collated sets — for the judge, the witness stand, the clerk, opposing counsel, and your own table — so everyone works from the same tabbed binder.
