Free 1/4-Cut Tab Divider Template

A 1/4-cut index tab divider gives you 4 tab positions per set (called a “bank”). Each tab is about 2.50 inches tall along the binding edge, extends 0.5 inches past the 8.5 × 11 body, and finishes at a 9 × 11 sheet — the standard for 3-ring binders. Need more than 4 sections? Sets simply continue in a second bank, staggered below the first.

Best for: Quarterly dividers, four-phase project binders, and annual reports.

Common questions

What size is each tab on a 1/4-cut divider?

On a standard letter-size divider, each 1/4-cut tab is about 2.50" tall along the binding edge and extends 0.5" beyond the page body. The finished sheet is 9 × 11 inches.

How many tabs do I get with a 1/4 cut?

4 tab positions per set (bank). If your project needs more sections, the tabs continue in a second bank — for example, 8 sections is simply two banks of a 1/4 cut.

Is this template really free?

Yes — download it, print it, share it. It's from Tabzoola, the Illinois family shop that die-cuts and prints custom index tabs. If you'd rather not DIY, we print, mylar-reinforce, punch, and collate custom tab sets from $1.08/set.

What paper should I print tab dividers on?

90# or 110# index stock is the standard — heavy enough to stand up in a binder. Professionally made tabs also get mylar reinforcement on the tab edge and binding holes, which is where a print shop earns its keep.
