1. List your sections— one per row, in the order the binder reads. The starter lists (medical chart, estate planning, operations manual, client review, tax return) cover the common structures if you’d rather edit than invent.
2. Pick your cut— the planner shows how many characters fit per line for every cut from 1/3 to 1/12, from our actual die measurements. Long titles aren’t errors; the designer wraps them onto a second line automatically.

What is a tab title planner?
A worksheet for planning a custom tab divider set before ordering: one section title per row, in the order the binder reads. How many characters fit on a tab?
It depends on the cut. A 1/5-cut tab is 2 inches wide and holds roughly 14 characters per line at 12pt; a 1/8-cut tab holds about 8. Longer titles are not a problem — they wrap onto a second line automatically, up to three lines, and the type shrinks to fit if needed.
Do I have to retype the list to order?
No — that's the point of planning in a spreadsheet. Copy the title column, open the designer, click “Already have your titles in a list?”, and paste. One title per line becomes one tab per line, the set sizes itself, and your free PDF proof is ready before you order.
