About Custom Paper Tabs

Custom paper index tab dividers are the most popular way to organize three-ring binders, manuals, and reference materials. You choose the text on every tab, the tab cut, the stock, and the finishing — then we print and manufacture your set to order in the USA.

Tabs are printed on durable 90# or 110# index stock and can be reinforced with a clear or colored Mylar strip along the binding edge for extra tear resistance. Add 3-hole punching, single- or double-sided printing, and collation so your sets arrive ready to drop straight into a binder.

Who uses them

  • Law firms — case binders, deposition and exhibit tabs
  • Medical and dental offices — patient charts and records
  • Accounting and finance — client files and tax binders
  • Training and HR — employee manuals and onboarding kits
  • Real estate and title — closing and transaction binders

Great Price

Glad I found you online. You're approximately 30 percent less than my old supplier and easier to work with. I'll be back.

Ben H. · Aug 22, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Ben — the price is no accident. We publish the whole table, setup included, so the number you see while you design is the number on the invoice. Glad the switch was easy, and we'll be ready when you are. — Tabzoola

Great customer service

I can't say enough about how great Justin was helping me with my order. After I approved the order he took time to call me to ask if i was sure about a decision to use next day delivery on the whole order when only a partial would keep me going while the rest of the order shipped ups ground. He saved me a ton of money. Thank you for caring about your customers. I wish more people were like you.

Amy L. · Aug 20, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Amy — I'll make sure Justin sees this. Splitting the shipment so only the part you needed went next-day was the right call, and it's the kind of thing we'd rather catch on the phone than have you find on the invoice. Anyone here would have made that call. Thank you for taking the time to write it down. — Tabzoola

Thank You

My old supplier went out of business. You guys produced an exact copy of what we've been using. Thank you!!!

Perri V. · Aug 18, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Perri — losing a supplier you've used for years is a real headache, and matching a set you already rely on is the kind of job we like. If you ever need another one matched, a photo of an existing tab is enough for us to pick up the titles and the colors. Glad we could keep you running. — Tabzoola

Perfect!

Tabs came out better than expected. Will definitely be back.

Joan S. · Aug 18, 2026
Response from Tabzoola

Thank you, Joan — better than expected is a good place to land. The part people usually don't expect is the make: real die-cut tabs on index stock, with the Mylar bonded on both sides of the extension, which is where tabs tear first. We'll be ready whenever you need the next run. — Tabzoola

Exceptional service

Tabs turned out great, and the service was above and beyond.

Jessica · Jun 28, 2026

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I design custom index tabs?+

Four steps, all on this page: pick the tab cut (how many tabs step across the page edge — 1/5, 1/8, 1/10 and so on), enter your titles by typing them, pasting a list, or photographing an existing set, click the dot under any tab to color it from the 19 Mylar colors, and watch the price update live as you build. When it looks right, a free PDF proof is emailed for approval before anything prints — no design software, no template, no artwork required.

Can I have different colors on each paper tab?+

Yes. You can assign a different color to each tab in the set at no extra charge on paper tabs — choose from 19 standard Mylar colors in the online designer.

What's the difference between 90# and 110# index stock?+

90# index is our standard everyday weight and suits most binders. 110# index is heavier and more rigid, a good choice for tabs that get handled frequently or need to stand up to heavy use.

What is Mylar reinforcement on a paper tab?+

Mylar reinforcement is a clear plastic strip bonded along the binding edge of each paper tab. It greatly increases tear resistance, so Mylar-reinforced index tabs hold up to repeated use in a three-ring binder far longer than plain paper.

What are collated (copy) tabs?+

Collated tabs — often called copy tabs — arrive pre-assembled in finished set order, ready to drop straight into a binder. Uncollated tabs are grouped by position so you can assemble the sets yourself.

How much do custom tab dividers cost?+

At Tabzoola a printed 5-tab paper set is $5.45 per set at the 25-set minimum ($136.25 total), $2.35 per set at 100 sets, and $1.08 per set at 1,000. An 8-tab paper set is $8.00 per set at 25 and $2.44 at 250. Wipe-clean .015 poly costs more for the same set — a 5-tab poly set is $31.50 per set at 25 and $11.85 at 100 — because the material and screen printing cost more than paper. Setup is included in every figure and there is no quote form: price depends only on the material, how many tabs are in each set, and how many sets you order, and the exact total for any combination appears on screen as you design. Full price tables are published rather than given out on request.

Do custom index tabs get cheaper at higher quantities?+

Yes, and sharply rather than gently, because setup is a real cost spread across the whole run. A 5-tab paper set runs $5.45 per set at 25 sets, $3.20 at 50, $2.35 at 100, $1.57 at 250 and $1.08 at 1,000 — so the per-tab cost falls from about $1.09 to about $0.22. Every price break is visible in the designer before you order, and UPS Ground shipping is free over $75.

Is it cheaper to print my own tab dividers or order them printed?+

It depends on how many sets you need. Printing your own from a free template costs nothing but your time and is genuinely the better answer for one or two binders. Blank divider packs from an office supplier run a few dollars a pack but cannot carry your printed section titles. Ordering printed to order starts at $5.45 per set at Tabzoola's 25-set minimum and falls to $2.35 per set at 100, and those arrive collated, Mylar-reinforced at the tab extension and 3-hole punched. Home-printed tabs have no reinforcement where tabs actually fail, and every set is assembled by hand — so past a few sets, printed wins on both cost per set and durability.

Where can I buy custom index dividers?+

Tabzoola manufactures custom index dividers to order in Schaumburg, Illinois and sells them directly online — design the set at tabzoola.com with live per-set pricing, no quote form or account required. Every set is printed with your own section titles, die-cut in any standard cut from 1/2 to 1/15, collated, and shipped nationwide with a free PDF proof before anything prints.

What is the minimum order for custom index tabs?+

Our minimum order is 25 sets. You can order any quantity from 25 sets up to 1,000+ sets, and the per-tab price drops as your quantity increases.

How long does production take?+

Paper tab orders typically produce in about 5 business days, and poly (plastic) tab orders in about 15 business days, measured from the moment you approve your proof. Rush production is available on many orders for an additional charge — contact us before ordering to inquire.

Do I get to see a proof before my tabs are printed?+

Yes. After you order, we email you a PDF proof showing exactly how your tabs will print. Nothing goes into production until you review and approve that proof, so you can check every tab's spelling, color, and order first.

What if my tabs arrive wrong? Is there a guarantee?+

Yes. You approve a free PDF proof before anything is printed, and we stand behind that proof: if your tabs don't match the proof you approved, or there's a manufacturing defect, we'll reprint your order or refund it at no cost to you — just contact us within 30 days of delivery. Because every set is custom made, we can't accept returns of correctly produced orders that match the approved proof, so reviewing your proof is the moment to catch anything.

Do you offer free shipping?+

Orders of $75.00 or more ship free via UPS Ground to the lower 48 US states. Orders under $75.00 ship UPS Ground for $19.95. Need it faster? Contact us before ordering to ask about expedited options.

Where are Tabzoola tabs made?+

Every order is manufactured to order in the USA at our facility in Schaumburg, Illinois.

What tab cuts do you offer?+

A tab cut is how many tab positions span the width of the page. We offer every standard cut from 1/2 to 1/15 — including the most popular 1/5 cut, 1/8 cut, and 1/10 cut tabs. The cut spaces your tabs across the binding edge so they don't overlap.

Do you make index tabs for legal or medical files?+

Yes. Our custom index tab dividers are widely used for legal case and exhibit binders, medical and patient chart dividers, and other professional filing. Because you print your own text, you can label them for any legal, medical, or business use.

Can I order numbered or sequential index tabs?+

Absolutely. Enter the numbers — or any text — you want on each tab in the online designer, and we print them in order. Numbered index tabs are a common choice for exhibits, sections, and reference sets.

Is a clear Mylar tab see-through?+

No. On a paper tab the color you pick is the Mylar film bonded over the tab extension, not the tab itself. The body is white index stock — 90# or 110# — so a Clear Mylar tab is a white tab with a clear protective film on the extension. Choose Red and it is the same white tab carrying a red film. The film exists because the extension is where tabs tear first, and it is bonded on both sides of the tab.

What color does the printing come in on custom index tabs?+

Paper tabs print in black ink on white index stock — there is no ink choice to make, and no extra charge. Poly dividers print in black or white, because white type is what stays readable on the dark colors like Black, Blue and Emerald; both cost the same. Printing is on both sides of the tab when you choose 2-sided, so the title reads from either direction in a binder.

How do I choose the right size and color for index tabs?+

For size, match the tab cut to how many sections you need and how much text goes on each tab: a lower cut like 1/5 gives fewer, wider tabs with room for longer labels, while a higher cut like 1/8 or 1/10 fits more sections per bank with shorter labels — our tab cut calculator shows the exact tab width for any cut. For color, use one color per section and keep neighboring tabs high-contrast so a section is findable at a glance; color-code consistently across every set. On Tabzoola tabs the color is the Mylar tab (19 Mylar colors on reinforced paper) or the whole poly divider (11 colors), and each tab in a set can carry its own color.

How do I choose the right number of tabs for my dividers?+

Count the sections your document actually needs, then add one spare tab at the back for growth — sets almost always expand over time. The number of tabs then determines the cut and how many banks the set uses: for example, 12 sections in a 1/5 cut is two banks of five plus a bank of two. Our free tab cut calculator does this for you — enter your section count and it shows the recommended cut, the bank layout, and the exact tab size, so you order a set that reads cleanly and leaves room to grow.

How many sets should I order — is it worth buying extra to get a lower price?+

Order close to what you actually need, not a big surplus just to reach a lower per-set price. The per-tab price does drop at higher quantities, but for custom printed tabs a large stockpile often costs you more in the end: tab labels go out of date when your section names or conventions change (a common headache for medical charts, legal exhibits, and estate binders), reinforced paper tabs can curl or yellow in long storage, and cash sits tied up on a shelf. Because every Tabzoola set is made to order with a low 25-set minimum, the smarter play is to order what you need now and reorder the identical set in about two minutes whenever you run low — your design stays saved, so there's no re-setup. You get the honest price for the quantity that fits your real usage, without the waste.
